How to care for your competition jackets?

For your competition jackets, washing them when they really need it is sufficient.

Steps for cleaning a riding jacket:

The first step in caring for your riding jacket is to clean it regularly. Feel free to shake your jacket regularly to remove as much dust and hair as possible. Here are the steps to follow

A. Hand washing

  1. Remove dust: Use a soft brush to remove dust and dirt from your jacket. If your jacket has leather elements, use a brush specifically designed for cleaning leather.
  2. Prepare the cleaner: Use a mild cleaner to clean your jacket. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or those containing bleach, as these can damage the fabric or leather parts.
  3. Apply the cleaner: Apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and gently rub your riding jacket. For small stains, clean directly on the surface by hand. Avoid rubbing too hard to prevent damage to the fabric or leather.
  4. Rinse: Use a damp cloth to rinse the jacket and remove any cleaner residue. Be sure to remove all of the cleaner to prevent damage to the fabric or leather.
  5. Dry: Air dry your riding jacket. Leave it to air out in the open air. After hand washing, never dry your competition jacket in direct sunlight or on a radiator, as this could damage the fibers and cause shrinkage or deformation. Avoid machine drying: tumble dryer. Instead, dry it in the open air in a cool, well-ventilated place. This will ensure that your jacket dries evenly and will prolong its life.

B. Machine washing

Regular cleaning of your competition jacket is essential to maintain its shine. Before washing, always consult the specific care instructions provided by the manufacturer.

If you want to machine wash your riding jacket:

  • close all buttons, Velcro fasteners, and zippers.
  • Use a delicate cycle at a low temperature of 30°C maximum, turn the jacket inside out,
  • and use a mild or organic detergent
  • without fabric softener,
  • bleach,
  • or detergent.

Avoid using fabric softener, as this can clog the fibers and reduce their breathability.

Care tip: Use a mesh laundry bag

To preserve the shape and fit of your competition jacket, use a mesh laundry bag during the wash cycle. This will prevent excessive rubbing against other clothes and protect the buttons or delicate details on your jacket.

How to dry a machine-washed riding jacket?

After machine washing your riding jacket, leave it to air dry. Avoid putting it in the dryer, as this can damage the materials. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can hang it outside in the shade, away from direct sunlight. To dry, we recommend hanging it on a wide hanger in the open air to limit creasing.

Iron inside out only if necessary.

With these simple but effective tips, you can care for your competition jackets like a true professional. Remember that taking care of your favorite riding clothes will help them last longer and keep you comfortable during your equestrian competitions. So put these tips into practice and shine on the field with competition jackets that are always impeccable!
